The first year PSM students and staff would like to invite you to the opening of “Alternate Realities: An Exhibition of First Year Photographic Constructions” on Thursday, April 12th at 6pm. This exhibition marks the third show of its type, dating to the beginning of our course.

A continuation of an exhibition of the same name that occurred in April 2010, this new show will take place at the Wentworth Mine in Lucknow, NSW and is sponsored by the Orange Regional Gallery.

“As far as I’m concerned, it’s like the Pyramids,” said Sandy Martin, a retired television producer, who had waited nearly three hours for this moment on a warm night drenched in moonlight. “We’ll never see this again in our lifetimes. I cried when I first saw it.”

Nam June Paik Art Center is to present “x_sound: John Cage, Nam June Paik and After.” The year of 2012 marks the 80th anniversary of Nam June Paik’s birth and the 100th anniversary of John Cage’s birth. The exhibition includes Cage’s and Paik’s works, but also works of today’s sound artists inheriting the two frontiers’ experimentations.

Projects from second year Bachelor of Photography and Situated Media and Bachelor of Sound and Music students will be exhibited  in a show titled “Socket Props”.

Prudence Murphy, "Rhyl #1", 2011

PSM Casual Academics Cherine Fahd and Prudence Murphy have been shortlisted for the William and Winifred Bowness Photography Prize. The exhibition opens 15 September and runs until 16 October 2011 at Monash Gallery of Art.

Prudence also had some artworks published in the latest Ampersand Magazine – Issue 4 ‘From the heart of the forest to the edge of the road’. The new issue will launch on 20 September at the State Library of NSW, 5-8pm.

PSM staff member Cherine Fahd will participate in the upcoming exhibition, “In camera and in public” at the CCP in Melbourne. The exhibition opens on 15 September at 6pm.

In addition, Cherine will be giving a talk on 17 September at noon for those in Melbourne.

Please join us Wednesday for an informal talk with David Burns (Director of Photography and Situated Media), Lawrence Wallen (Head of School, Design), Sam Spurr (Director of Interior and Spatial Design) and Thea Brejzek about a series of exhibitions recently curated in Prague for the 2011 Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space.
