“Kaldor Public Art Projects launches Parlour, a creative new space where art, music, film, performance and hands-on workshops come together to explore and engage with our projects at night.”
The Doppelgänger Parlour will include:
A special evening viewing of Thomas Demand’s new artwork “The Dailies”; ”Lazy-Susan’s Half-Hour Speak-Easy”, conversations hosted by Adam Jasper; architectural interventions by AR-MA, Frank Minnaërt, and Nadia Wagner that will amplify the uncanny subterranean spaces of the CTA; ”Miniature Modernism Model-making Workshop”: recreate the iconic Harry Seidler CTA building with lasercut building sets by Christen Meli; engage with UTS students in the “Performing Banality” studio;

Two architecture and design luminaries engage in a wide-ranging discussion considering philosophies of the interior with reference to Thomas Demand’s The Dailies, Kaldor Public Art Project 25.
Sylvia Lavin is an internationally known critic, historian and theorist whose work explores the limits of architecture across a wide spectrum of historical periods. Lavin is the Director of the Critical Studies and M.A./Ph.D. programs in the Department of Architecture and Urban Design at UCLA and the Director of Hi-C, a collaborative design and research group that supports the critical engagement with experimental architecture in the public realm. Ms. Lavin is the recipient of a 2011 Arts and Letters Award in Architecture from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. Her most recent book, Kissing Architecture, was published by Princeton University Press in 2011 and she is currently curating All That is Loose Will Land, a large-scale exhibition focusing on the intersections between art and architecture in Los Angeles during the 1970s.
Charles Rice is Professor of Architectural History and Theory and Head of the School of Art and Design History at Kingston University London. His research considers questions of the interior across the arts. He is author of The Emergence of the Interior: Architecture, Modernity, Domesticity (Routledge, 2007), and is editor of The Journal of Architecture (Routledge/RIBA). Rice has lectured and taught at numerous universities and institutions internationally, and is currently a Visiting Professor in the School of Architecture at the University of Technology Sydney, where he taught from 2005-2010.

Thomas Demand is one of Germany’s most iconic artists. He draws on familiar imagery found in the mass media as the basis for the painstakingly sculpted environments he constructs from paper and photographs. In this special public conversation, Demand will discuss his major new work The Dailies, Kaldor Public Art Project 25, installed in Harry Seidler’s circular Commercial Travellers’ Association building in Martin Place, Sydney (23 March – 22 April 2012) with Sylvia Lavin, following an introduction by John Kaldor.

Andrew Hurle has been exhibiting in Australia and internationally for the past 25 years and is represented by Darren Knight Gallery, Sydney. He is currently in the final stages of a PhD on the subject of printed monetary design and counterfeit value. In the course of the doctorate he has held a fellowship at the Smithsonian in Washington D.C. and has spent the past few years living in Berlin, researching in museums and archives in Germany and England. Andrew was a guest artist at the 2011 Tallinn print Triennial and has been the recipient of various Australia Council awards and residencies, including the Tokyo Studio in 1992 and the Kunstlerhaus Bethanien in Berlin in 2004/5.
